Hosting Lands is a long-term, collaborative exhibition movement that has grown through relationships with people and places practicing alternative ways of living, working, and organizing within the ruins of late colonial capitalism. Rather than extract or simply represent, it has tried to work alongside existing struggles for land, environmental justice, and commoning, grounding artistic and curatorial work in specific rural sites in Denmark and beyond, while weaving trans-local solidarities that refuse both nationalism and pastoral localism.
This summer’s exhibition, Fire, We Gather Around, marks a provisional landing point in this process. Dedicated to our collaborators and the friendships and shared efforts that have shaped Hosting Lands, it brings attention to the often-invisible labors that sustain collective work and treats artworks less as objects of display than as places to gather, listen, and reflect together. Taking place on Fanefjord Fælled, a piece of land collectivized through the project, the exhibition asks what it can mean for an exhibition to matter concretely while staying accountable to the political conditions and contradictions that make such work necessary.
The exhibition is not framed as a conclusion or closure for Hosting Lands. It is a temporary gathering and a pause in motion, closer to a vigil than a spectacle, that acknowledges complicity and privilege without claiming innocence, and understands itself as a rehearsal space for identifying shared urgencies and practicing unfinished forms of solidarity.
For this finissage event, we invite you back to Fanefjord Fælled for a day of sharing different reflections and celebrating some of the collaborative processes of Hosting Lands.
The curators will introduce the trajectory of Hosting Lands over the last four years and reflect on the questions and tensions that have shaped it.
The day will also celebrate the collaboration with artist and comrade Dharmendra Prasad, who has spent the three months of the exhibition working on site, building relationships, encounters, and shared practices on rural pedagogies with different locals. Dharmendra will invite us to cook lichi for lunch and present a performance that emerges from these ongoing processes.
We will also be sharing a communal, vegan dinner, prepared and served by Line Bangsbo, who will be introducing the food with a small meditation about the plants and growths offered (notice sign up!).
The day ends with a performance by body_hacker which has grown out of several years of visits and conversations with the curator team about the hosting politics of the project.

13:00–15:00 Harvest School workshop and musical performance
We gather to learn about the practices of Harvest School, a self-organized art pedagogical space in the village of Nadaon, India, initiated by artist and community organizer Dharmendra Prasad. What kinds of schools do we dream about building together? What happens when Harvest School lands within the context of global north / Danish rurality? Which struggles resonate, and which differ across contexts, landscapes and (hi)stories?
This discussion circle will include a hands-on workshop on straw-ing – a strategy of appropriating and demodernizing industrial objects and minds ~ and finalized with a performative choreography with musical elements by Prasad in collaboration with Hårbølle neighbours and friends.
15.30–16.30 Curatorial reflection circle with Ida Bencke, Aziza Harmel & Dea Antonsen
The curatorial reflection circle is an open space to think together with the curators and those who have shaped and accompanied Hosting Lands over the past years. Join us for a shared conversation about the questions, doubts, responsibilities, and possibilities that have emerged through the project. Sitting together in the commoned landscape, we will reflect on what has been learned or damaged, what feels unfinished, and how these experiences might inform future forms of working, organizing, and gathering around art, land, and struggle.
17:30 Dinner time with Line Bangsbo
Seasonal vegan dinner incl. beverages prepared and served by Line Bangsbo.

It happens in the cracks of time
Hosting is endless is a conversation that expands a performance. The visitor is invited into a deep listening session of conversations that erupt, rise and flatten the relationality of hosting and politics of hosting through different voices.
body_hacker will facilitate a performance with the curators of Hosting Lands as performers reenacting parts of the text prints with the audience live.
