Bio

Til Vægs is a platform that works site specifically within AKB Lundtoftegade in Nørrebro, Copenhagen – a housing area pressured by gentrification mechanism – via methods of methods of place guarding, social and environmental sustainability, open and democratic, long-term processes with resident members. Here Hosting Lands collaborates with artist Skye Jin around the project Gardening as Activism, and the artist-activist platform Til Vægs, on local workshops, long term residencies and co-learning sessions around themes of food, kitchen and garden as a community space.

Last Thursday, November 7th, residents of Lundtoftegade, members of the Skovhavelunden and Til Vægs, curators of Hosting Lands, and a special guest, author Lesley-Ann Brown joined in a zine-making workshop. Lesley-Ann took everyone through an introductory round of the zine-making process and potentials, from its roots in the punk and indie self-publishing scene, to its very hand-held tactical DIY nature. Everyone shared recipes, sketches and stories of the Skohavelunden, and recipes from the plants they hold dear in the garden ~ and its connections to their homelands and traditions. Roots for a zine to become.

Lesley Ann writes of the zine-making process on her blog, "We discussed the potential power of zine-making. This discussion happened before we partook in the delicious potluck dinner created by some of the gardeners. Zines are a powerful way to share information. What is a better way to inform the broader community about the skill-sharing here? The camaraderie available? We spoke about the power of self-publishing – to remember that to publish is to make public."

Everyone brought and shared food, and the potluck table looked gorgeous to say the least. Much of the food on the table was harvest from the garden too!
