Open Garden: Hjortetakly

26/06/2024, WORKSHOP

Bio

Hjortetakly is a small garden lot in the village Viemose in Kalvehave, southern Sealand. It has recently been bought by poet and translator Shëkufe Tadayoni Heiberg as a gesture to protect the soil and retain space and shelter for all animals who inhabit the place: the insects, the staghorn and sumac trees, the elderflower, birch and pines - or the ones visiting the garden, such as deer, foxes, hedgehog and the birds.

Dear Viemose, Kalvehave, closeby areas, and everyone interested from near and far,

This is an open invitation to hear about and take part in the first processes of Hjortetakly.

Hjortetakly is a small garden within the larger Gamle Kalvehave in South Sealand which was bought by Shëkufe Tadayoni Heiberg with the aim of bringing it ‘back’ to the community of species. This, by creating a collective space for learning about and wonder at interspecies connectedness through teaching and mediating about nature and culture, and considering the spiritual relationship between the local garden and the terrestrial earth-dweller.

As part of this process, over the next 10 months, we’re performing a building experiment in compostable architecture called ‘Fra Haven til Haven’ where we’ll use gathered materials from near and far to build within the space, rather than use extracted materials.

We would like to invite all interested to an ‘open garden’ where we’ll offer a glass of herbal tea from the garden and tell a bit about the project.

We invite everyone to bring a round stone and help lay the first stones for the project’s paving surfaces. All stones are welcome, fieldstones, beach stones, cobble stones, bricks; in all types and quantities, but preferably in about the size of a fist in circumference and round in shape.

The event will take place outdoors, so bring a warm sweater if the weather calls for it.

We are looking forward to meeting you - and your stones.

Warmly,
Dea, Shëkufe, Anja, Leonora og Emilie

‘Fra Haven til Haven’ is a collaboration between architects Emilie Boye Kjær and Leonora Krog, biologist and nature guide Anja Vensild Hørnell, author, publisher, and climate activist Shëkufe Tadayoni Heiberg, & Hosting Lands.
